Indian Tacos are such a hit at our house! I mean, who doesn’t love tacos?! Fry bread seems like a lot of prep time and work but it doesn’t have to be. Try out this easy recipe and let me know what you think!
Easy Indian Tacos
Frozen buns star in this easy version of a normally time consuming meal!
Ingredients
Frybread
- 2-3 cups Vegetable Oil
- Frozen Bun Dough
Toppings
- 1-2 lb Ground Beef or meat of your choice
- 1 packet Taco Seasoning
- Other Toppings – cheese, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, onions, olives, tomatoes – your choice!
Instructions
Fry Bread
- Set your buns out to thaw and rise 4-5 hours ahead of time; 1-2 buns per person. One bun is enough fry bread for me but my husband prefers to have two. Since the bun dough is pre-portioned, the fry breads are a bit smaller than if I was to portion them by hand.
- Once the buns have thawed and risen; heat vegetable oil to 300-325° in a deep fryer or dutch oven. Try to maintain consistent heat and don't overheat the oil. You want about two to three inches of oil so that the dough doesn't touch the bottom of the pan.
- While the oil is heating up, roll the bun dough out into thin disks – about 5-6 inches wide.
- Once the oil is heated to the correct temperature, drop one dough disk in and fry until golden, then flip and fry the other side until golden. This only takes about 30 seconds on each side so watch closely.
- Continue frying each fry bread individually. Place fry bread a paper towel to drain.
Toppings
- Brown ground beef and season with taco seasoning.
- Prep and set out other toppings as you would for regular tacos.
- Pile your toppings on top of the fry bread and enjoy!
Notes
I recommend a thermometer to maintain your oil temp.
