Ingredients
Breadstick Dough
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp warm water
- 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp olive oil or oil of your choice
- 1 3/4 tsp salt
- 3 cups bread flour, all purpose flour will work fine if needed
Topping
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1-2 tsp garlic salt
Instructions
- Mix the first three ingredients together and let them sit for a couple minutes.
- Add additional sugar, salt and oil to the yeast mixture and stir together.
- Add flour to the liquids and knead with a dough hook or by hand for a few minutes until the dough comes together nicely. The dough should be slightly sticky.
- Grease a large bowl, place the dough inside and let it rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Cut dough into 12-15 equal pieces, roll between your hands into breadstick shape and place on a greased cookie sheet. Place in a warm place to rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°. Bake breadsticks for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Check the underside to make sure they aren't getting too done – this will depend on the type of pan you are using.
- Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt. Add a sprinkle of parmesan and herbs of choice if you prefer.
