Equipment

  • 1 crockpot or dutch oven

Ingredients

  • 3 lb beef or pork roast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp pepper (heaping)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 packet onion soup mix or ranch dressing mix
  • 1/2 can beer
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉.
  • Mix all the ingredients together and pour them over the roast.
  • Cover and bake the roast until it's done to your liking. I bake mine until it will fall apart easily with a fork. Remove the roast from the pan and allow it to rest for a few minutes. If you are using a crockpot, cook the roast on high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hours.
  • I like to use the drippings left in the pan to make gravy. I add some broth or water, bring it to a rolling boil, and then add a little cornstarch (mixed with a small amount of water to make a liquid), to get it to the desired amount and consistency. Reduce the heat and simmer the gravy until it thickens.
