The Perfect Berry Smoothie

Play Pause Unmute Mute

I don’t always get to the store every week, but love to have berries, bananas and fresh spinach on hand for smoothies. Unfortunately, these don’t have a very long shelf life once I bring them home from the store.

I package these single serve baggies of smoothie ingredients and pop them in my freezer for a quick breakfast or lunch on the go. In my opinion, they are the perfect amount and consistency with great flavor too! I try to buy Yoplait Greek yogurt because it’s low in added sugar and high in protein. I also add a little splash of lemon juice for a refreshing taste. I like to buy the single serve cups of yogurt, it’s one less thing to measure out when I’m in a hurry.

I dump the baggie of ingredients into the blender, add my cup of yogurt, a splash of lemon juice, 4 ice cubes and a cup of water and blend until smooth.

The recipe below is for one smoothie, but when I make these ‘smoothie bags’ for my freezer I buy bulk quantities of berries, bananas and spinach then split it out. You can make these smoothies with fresh ingredients each day instead, I just don’t have any luck with my ingredients lasting long enough to finish them before they go bad. I try to use them up within a couple weeks of being in the freezer.

The Perfect Smoothie

The perfect smoothie has to be a great consistency, bold flavor and the right quantity! This one checks all the boxes.

Ingredients

For the baggies

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 3/4 cup fresh or frozen berries
  • 1/2 banana

Add once in the blender

  • 5.3 oz yogurt (single serve cup)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

Prep Smoothie Ingredients

  • In sandwich baggies, I add 1 cup fresh spinach, 3/4 cup berries and 1/2 banana. Keep making baggies until you've used up your ingredients. After you divide your ingredients into baggies, place them in the freezer for later use.

Make the Smoothie

  • In a blender, dump together one prepped baggie of spinach, berries and banana. Add yogurt, lemon juice, ice cubes and water. Feel free to adjust volumes according to your preferences. Blend until smooth.
  • Pour it into your cutest cup and enjoy!!!

Notes

Other great add-ins:
Ground Flax
Chia Seeds
Oatmeal – uncooked
Protein Powder
